Email virus warning
There has been an email circulated today (THURSDAY 22 OCTOBER 2015) by an external malicious user. Customers have been receiving emails which appear to be sent from our UUScotland@uuplc.co.uk email address.
These emails are NOT from either United Utilities, or United Utilities Scotland.
These emails contain a virus contained within a Word document or Excel xls spreadsheet. These attachments, when opened, may seek to obtain addresses and bank details.
What you need to do:
- Please do not open these emails - but delete them from your inbox and trash folder immediately.
- Do not respond to the email by phone or email.
We are not sending these emails to you. The malicious user chooses companies, government departments and other organisations to entice the recipient into thinking it is an official communication and alarm them into opening the attachment or clicking the link.
The UU Scotland email mailbox or servers have not been compromised. Modern versions of Microsoft Office (Office 2010, 2013, and 365) have macros disabled by default.
If you have any questions or concerns about your United Utilities business account, please contact the customer service team as usual. Questions regarding financial transactions should be directed to your bank.
